Language is the window to culture: understanding
a culture's language is a key to understanding the subtleties and
nuances of that culture. We have designed a socio-linguistic Spanish
language program that not only focuses on communication, but also
highlights aspects of the culture that make it unique. Learning
Spanish thus becomes a challenge assuming a greater and more valuable
cultural role.
We use environments such as the
opera, soccer games, social events with native roommates, guest
lecturers and excursions to allow students to expand their exposure
and use of language in a variety of settings.
We believe that every language exchange, from
the residence staff to the bus driver, is educationally valuable
for improving communication skills as well as learning about a different
aspect of society. We therefore incorporate every day language use
as part of the curriculum.
Classroom instruction seeks to develop and reinforce
receptive and productive communicative skills through a variety
of sources, which include videos, songs and lyrics, newspaper articles,
cd-roms, academic journals, literature and poetry readings, maps,
role playing and so forth. Courses can be created exclusively for
a given group of students or may be integrated into existing ones.
Each language class does not exceed 10 students, thus allowing the
interactive nature of the course to be truly effective.
We can also organize lectures,
workshops, meetings and seminars taught by well known professors,
government officers, judges, writers, artist, etc. depending on
the interest of your Institution.
Both Academic Programs and Spanish Courses are given at the Universidad
de Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina's preeminent national university
with some 250,000 students.
